College is a thrilling experience for most. Students are given the opportunity to meet new people, perhaps enjoy the occasional townhouse party and learn valuable lessons they that will carry on for the rest of their lives. However, none of this comes for free. The average yearly tuition for a private four-year college such as Pace University is $32,410, not including housing, food, books and supplies.

The reason students are willing to take the risk that is college is the possibility of getting a career that will keep them financially stable. However, jobs are not easy to come by, whether it’s when you are in college or out of it. Second year graduate student and early childhood education major Matt Indik gave his advice on joining the workforce.

“One piece of advice I’d give is never give up,” Indik said. “Depending on your profession it may be difficult to get a job, but not impossible.”

“While you’re still in school, I would definitely start applying and going on interviews. This way you are gaining interview experience and you are developing professionally. Try to apply to 5–10 jobs a day,” Indik said.

Like most universities, Pace tries to help students willing to join the workforce while they are in college and once they get out.

“While you’re still at Pace, it would be beneficial to visit career services, they’re very helpful when it comes to resumes and searching for employment,” Indik said.

Indik followed this role. His first job while at Pace was a student assistant in the SDCA office and he is currently a special education teacher.
